In this video, Tricia Yu reviews the version of Yang Style Short Form that she originally learned in Taiwan in 1970.
This form is similar to the Exercise for Lifelong Health and Well-Being: Yang Style Short Form, Cheng Man-Ch'ing Lineage (available in DVD or VHS), but includes all the movements from the traditional Yang form that were eliminated by Cheng Man Ch'ing in the 1930s. It follows his form through Lady Weaves the Shuttlesand then includes the following additional movements:
- Needle at Sea Bottom
- Spread Arms like a Fan
- Turn and Strike Opponent with Fist
- High Pat on a Horse >
- Box Opponents Ears
- White Snake Puts out Tongue>
From the final Left Ward Off to the Closing Move, the form is identical to the Cheng Man Ch'ing version.
In addition, it includes two extra teaching sections and a demonstration, back view of the form. The teaching section is filmed against a mirrored backdrop that allows the viewer to see the movements simultaneously from three angles - front, back and sides.
The Demonstration and Guided Practice are done in tranquil, beautiful outdoor settings. Peaceful music that was composed and performed by Tricia Yu provides a relaxing element to the entire video.
The video provides 120 minutes of instruction and includes:
- Introduction: history, philosophy, health benefits and practical applications of Tai Chi (8 min).
- Demonstration of the Form: front view (11 min)
- Teaching in seven sections (90 min)
Each section includes:
- Basic principles
- Step-by-step form review
- Perspectives for integrating Tai Chi process into daily life
- Guided practice of each section
- Guided Practice: back view (11 min)
